3,500.000 GBP vew - from the appartments on the left!
The old warehouse conversions are highly sought after - judging by the price! I would rather have a house boat.

The 15thc Great Hall at Eltham Palace
The Manor House was acquired by Edward II’s Queen, Isabella in c 1311, and she was responsible for strengthening and buttressing the c 1200 walls; Edward III developed the palace further and it became a royal favorite, throughout the 14 and 15 centuries. Little of this remains, but the Great Hall, rebuilt by Edward IV during the late 1500th century, after two earlier halls had been destroyed. Eltham is still a Crown property, but this jewel, hidden away by the suburbs of southeast London, is leased and managed by English Heritage. It has been used extensively in period dramas for film and television.

Osprey
I met this wonderful guy, Richard, on the la Chua trail this morning. He is caring for an osprey, who has a fungal infection of the lung; she is living in his house and he takes her for walks on Paynes Prairie. All the twitchers were out in the mist, looking for birds, but this one came down the track to meet me!

You need eyes in the back of your head!
Now the weather is so wonderful, it's time to get out and about again.
Haines Creek in the Autumn
Yesterday I spent a lovely Fall day in Central Florida, taking photographs talking photographs, and seeing all the marvelous things that can be done with CS5

Being a bit inconsistent with my blogging; I hope that when I get back from the UK, I will do better!

Fern Hammock Spring
The incredible colours of this environmentally sensitive spring; no swimming or fishing allowed, so peaceful even on a Sunday!
Clear Spring Water
Fish in the Fern Hammock Spring; probably the prettiest place in Ocala National Forest

Citra First Baptist Church
Very pretty little church dating back to the 1870s; the architectural style redolent of the 'Old South'.

Operation Stork
Some of you may have seen my picture of the poor Wood Stork that has had a multi hook fishing lure lodged in his face and neck, for at least three weeks. Despite requests for help to various agencies and 'Fish and Wildlife', nothing seemed to be happening. On Sunday, I fired off letters to the local daily paper, and sent emails to the 'Parks and Recreations office', and I understand that four rangers spent some time yesterday trying to catch the bird, to no avail. EZHighway gave me a number to call, and today, a marvellous couple drove up from Sarasota, a good 31/2 hour journey, with a net gun, and caught him. he was wary, having been chased about a bit lately, but the deed was done. They took the wretched hooks from his neck and carried him off back to Sarasota, where he will be treated with antibiotics, as he had quite a bit of infection. When he is better, they will bring him back and release him where we found him, and hopefully I shall be able to document the event.

Ruby Throated Humming bird
Not often a hummingbird poses so nicely; I grabbed this through the sitting room window, so technically far from perfect, but it is my first hummingbird!
Sunday, August 22, 2010
This Wood Stork has been snagged by a fishing lure in Tuscawilla Park, Ocala; he needs catching to have the hooks removed before it becomes infected. Despite the best efforts of my friend, Sue Nye, who has contacted every agency available, no-one so far has been prepared to do anything about it. This would be an easy capture for anyone with the right equipment, as he is very docile and will come to within a few feet of anyone who will throw him a fish. The local wildlife officer claims that they cannot catch him unless he is unable to move or eat. It is an absolute disgrace that nobody is prepared to help one of our 'protected' species.

Enough of the Paparazzi
An unusual species to see grazing in a field on your way home from town in Central Florida. I had been told they were there, but had been unable to find them; of course I realise now, that in the heat of the day, they disappear into the trees and become part of the sun dappled landscape.

Princess
My grand-daughter, Nia, looking as if butter would not melt in her mouth. As with most four year olds, this is far from the truth. I have tried to get a photograph which will show her darker side, but she's on to me; a slam of the door and a cry of 'no pictures, PLEASE' and the opportunity is gone!

zebra swallowtail
One of the most spectacular butterflies of the Eastern States, this one easily had a 4" wing span.
