The Atlantic Florida style

I really prefer the b/w version; I had a day doomed to failure today; I wanted frothy slow shutter speed waves, and failed to produce any, and then I put a polarizing filter on my lens and everything came out over the top! What do you guys think?

Nia

This is my granddaughter, 4 yrold Nia; this picture was unconventionally photographed from my PC. This necessity was not unrelated to my having processed it with a demo version of some filter software, which has the save and print feature disabled!

The Perfect Spot

I am never happier than when I have my feet, or any other part of me in the sea. This building would suit me very well; the hurricanes wouldn't worry me, since it appears to have stood up so far!

Operation Stork

Operation Stork
Originally uploaded by gilliebg
Some of you may have seen my picture of the poor Wood Stork that has had a multi hook fishing lure lodged in his face and neck, for at least three weeks. Despite requests for help to various agencies and 'Fish and Wildlife', nothing seemed to be happening. On Sunday, I fired off letters to the local daily paper, and sent emails to the 'Parks and Recreations office', and I understand that four rangers spent some time yesterday trying to catch the bird, to no avail. EZHighway gave me a number to call, and today, a marvellous couple drove up from Sarasota, a good 31/2 hour journey, with a net gun, and caught him. he was wary, having been chased about a bit lately, but the deed was done. They took the wretched hooks from his neck and carried him off back to Sarasota, where he will be treated with antibiotics, as he had quite a bit of infection. When he is better, they will bring him back and release him where we found him, and hopefully I shall be able to document the event.

Not often a hummingbird poses so nicely; I grabbed this through the sitting room window, so technically far from perfect, but it is my first hummingbird!

This Wood Stork has been snagged by a fishing lure in Tuscawilla Park, Ocala; he needs catching to have the hooks removed before it becomes infected. Despite the best efforts of my friend, Sue Nye, who has contacted every agency available, no-one so far has been prepared to do anything about it. This would be an easy capture for anyone with the right equipment, as he is very docile and will come to within a few feet of anyone who will throw him a fish. The local wildlife officer claims that they cannot catch him unless he is unable to move or eat. It is an absolute disgrace that nobody is prepared to help one of our 'protected' species.

Just finishing up a week of racehorse photos for a web site; this is not one of them, just a hasty grab as these two came by!

Enough of the Paparazzi

Enough of the Paparazzi

An unusual species to see grazing in a field on your way home from town in Central Florida. I had been told they were there, but had been unable to find them; of course I realise now, that in the heat of the day, they disappear into the trees and become part of the sun dappled landscape.

The Ocean

I have always wanted to live on the water, by the ocean or at least close by. Sometimes I have. Now I am halfway between the Atlantic and the Gulf Coast, so when the longing for the sea gets too strong, it is not so far to go.
